The Honorable Pierre Lellouche appointed Minister of State responsible for European Affairs


Harvard alumnus Pierre Lellouche LLM'74, SJD'79  was appointed Minister of State responsible for Foreign Trade on 14 November 2010.  Pierre Lellouche was Minister of State for European Affairs from June 2009 to November 2010 and was previously France's Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Born in Tunisia, Pierre Lellouche studied at Lycée Condorcet in Paris. He is a graduate of Faculté de Droit de Paris X-Nanterre (1972) and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (1973).

He was elected deputy of Sarcelles in 1993 and has been deputy of Paris since 1997. He has been Paris City Council Member since 2001.

Very active in the international affairs field, Pierre Lellouche was the president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly from 2004 until 2006.

He has been director of the Nuclear Threat Initiative and a member of the Trilateral Commission. He recently was the French negotiator concerning the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), finally implanted in Cadarache in France.

He is the author of several books on domestic and international politics, including his last book L'allié indocile : La France et l'OTAN, de la Guerre froide à l'Afghanistan, Éditions du Moment, 2009.

Pierre Lellouche is a frequent speaker at Harvard events in France and a strong supporter of the activities of the Harvard community in France. He was an Arthur Sachs Scholar.
